Maximum fees in Alberta
| Assessment for | Maximum fee |
|---|---|
| Co-decision-making, guardianship or trusteeship | $500 |
| Combined guardianship and trusteeship | $700 |
These are the provincial maximums at the time of writing. Mukesh will confirm the exact cost, including any travel for in-home visits, before you book.
If cost is a hardship
Alberta’s guidance says that people who cannot pay should contact the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee. Please ask about this when you call.
Who pays?
This depends on the situation. Often the person applying pays at first. Ask your lawyer whether the cost can be recovered from the adult’s estate or through the application.
What to prepare
- The adult’s full name, date of birth and location
- Why the assessment is needed, and what decision is in question
- The doctor’s confirmation that temporary causes have been ruled out
- Medication list
- Copies of any enduring power of attorney, personal directive or court order
- Preferred language, plus any hearing, vision or mobility needs
Timing
If a court date or hospital discharge is coming up, tell Mukesh when you first call. The completed form is generally valid for six months.
